Oliver and Zara’s Atlanta Adventure

October 14, 2008

Hello,

Zara Mom and Aunt Dell

It’s Oliver writing on the blog.  Zara, my mother and I went down to Atlanta in September to visit some family and friends.  It was the first time that Zara and I have been to Atlanta.  We stayed with our Aunt Dell in Austell, Gerogia.  Aunt Dell was very gracious in making us feel at home and putting up with us (Zara going everywhere, my Mom questioning everything, me watching football).  We saw the CNN building,  the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coke and other sites.  Here are some of the pictures from the trip.

it’s funny…

September 9, 2008

..but here I am again – apologizing – why i have been so lame lately and not done any – ANY posts!

I mean aren’t I hip – with it and such – sadly I must admit – NO! So I will try and attempt to complete this post and then see where things go.. The fact is that I am really really busy but as much as I say that – I’m not sure if I would have it any other way – or as Oliver says – “you always have a project on the go” Which I have to admit as much as I don’t always like admitting – he is right on that one! We have had a good summer – my garden is currently going mushroom crazy – anyone else having that problem? All this rain has been good for the garden but not for Byron who spent like a whole month sleeping in the basement – he hates thunder and lightning which then developed into hating the rain! Zara is doing great – repeating lots of words, doing lots of things, trying lots of things and still full of fun while hanging on to that little independant streak! She has been treated to Centre Island – 2 trips to the ZOO – (NEVER go on a Friday when school is almost out) to the EX and various visits out to Belfountain to visit her cousins and out to Brampton to visit the family.  Sadly there have been no trips up north, we didn’t get to rent a cottage this year and I am so missing my family cottage – It has now been 2 summers without but I swear it feels like yesterday…I am looking forward to the fall with my family and hope to make the most of it with apple picking and pumpkin tarts! As some of you know, Oliver and I also hooked up with a nutrionist and did a cleanse program and have also changed our way of eating and me – exercising! I have lost almost 40lbs. I feel fantastic but mainly I hope that one day I can show Zara how to be healthy and be good to yourself and feel good about yourself too.  I still have a long ways to go but I am excited about the way there!.. I am starting school again on Thursday nites this year and am eager to get back into it – I haven’t taken as many pictures as I would like and they are sitting on my computer which I always vowed I would never do…well on that note here is a small summer 2008 sampling

blue, green and purple

July 3, 2008

Zara is learning like crazy and I love how she is keen to repeat things…Have to keep an eye out for the not so choice words but currently her vocabulary consists of

GREEN, BLUE, PURPLE, ZARA, DOGGY, HELLO, BYE, WOW &  AUREVOIR – we think!

and of course some other words that she says over and over again but we aren’t sure what language they are:

BABO, SHESH SHESH shesh shesh shesh….well that is what it sounds like but she is usually pointing at something in the meantime!

She is also turning into a little beach bum and loves to wade into Lake Ontario – she tried to sample the pebbles that the water had tumbled in but decided against them for lunch.  She has not shied away from the cold water so I am looking forward to spending more time with her in the water – She really seems to enjoy it. I DO have to get over my aversion to sand – the fact that it sticks EVERYWHERE and in not so fun places!

She is quite a kissy, lovey girl and enjoys planting a few on her cousin Wil. They then in turn try to attack each other with kisses…

On Father’s Day – we all went out to Dana’s and all the kids got to play together – Simon, Oliver and Robb & Rachel, Wil and Zara! The ladies had some time to catch up and some quiet time when the boys were away and the babies were napping!

Ok so soo much has changed – Zara is 1, she is learning how to walk and talk. She is turning into a little character full of expressions. She loves her milk, she loves to raise her eyebrows – she loves to turn the pages of a book. Seriously though – we have really been blessed with a happy go lucky little girl that only spices things up every now and then. She is attending a french daycare now and is learning french. She loves it when you sing Fais Do Do to her and she dances in your arms… It’s super cute – I guess I will have to try and video it. So I know the posts have been lacking as of late – I was taking a photography class and going back to work, Oliver took some paternity leave and we have watched our little z grow into a big Z.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the last little while – If I don’t do it this way I will never get caught up!

***Editor’s note – ok so its really hard to keep on top of things because I think I wrote this originally on April 19th – sigh!******

The girl is now walking all over the place – we have had our shares of bumps and bruises and I pat myself on the back for those 2 times blood was coming out of her mouth and I didn’t freak out…! She is thriving at daycare and now walks in on her own and even walks to the car in the morning and points to her seat to say let’s go!

Really though – how can you keep track of all the new and first things – there are so many – I love being her mom and seeing it all! She is now saying Zara – sounds a bit like yaya but there is even a little girl in her daycare that points to me and says Zara!

So I have attached my favorite photos to date and hope you enjoy – I will do my best to come back soon and I’m sorry its been so long in arriving!

Santa Claus Parade

February 15, 2008

oday we took Zara to her first ever Santa Claus parade. We went with our neighbours the Vardens and were able to watch from the roof of thebuilding where Tom has his dental practice! It was great and we were able to see everything, although Zara slept thru most of it including Santa.. It was a gorgeous, sunny and cold day!The floats were great but I missed the great big mother goose I remember from my childhood – I think it was purple…. Anyways I loved the gingerbread house and Clifford the big red dog…Have a look and see if you remember any from your childhood!

pam and dennison get married!

January 24, 2008

Today, surrounded by their family and friends, Pam and Dennison got married at Ancaster Old Mill. Although there was the familiar fall chill in the air, the happiness and love surrounding the day warmed everyone and even little baby Zara was able to attend and share in the festivities…

It was an intimate ceremony, followed by a wonderful meal at a LONG table full of cousins and the dancing went on well into the nite…It was a day many will remember and a little bun in the oven felt all the love and all the sore feet from the dance floor!

going to San Francisco…..

November 2, 2007

For the week of October 27th to November 3rd, the Roberts took the little one to San Fran. Our great friend Alex was kind enough that in between emptying boxes he set up a wonderful oasis better than a hotel for us and it was so amazing! Zara was great on the plane and only really fussy on the way down because she didn’t want to be held anymore…Even on the way back she was great, with an emergency landing and everything – people said they didn’t even know there was a baby on the plane!

San Francisco is beautiful and sooo rich with culture right down to the curbs on the roads! We really enjoyed driving around and seeing the sites, firstly with a 49ers game – Zara’s first NFL game, to RENO to Lake Tahoe and back again…! The timing was great as the weather was fantastic and warm but you could easily stay much longer as there is so much to see – It is definately a different dynamic travelling with a baby but how easy and relaxing this trip was even with her – I think both Oliver and I would jump right in again with both feet no problem! I have so many photos but included some of my favorites…

Enjoy!

Today we visited a pumpkin patch with Rachel, Liz, Dana and Wil…It was chilly but it was very fun! There were lots of pumpkins, animals and even a hay ride into a haunted forest…Zara dressed up early as she wasn’t going to get a chance to trick or treat in San Francisco!

We’ve had many adventures in September and October and I will do my best to try and update the last 2 months of activities in a long and sweet post!

We had a wonderful picnic on the beach with the babies and some ants! It was a gorgeous day in the city and Heather and her little boy David and Dana and Wilson and Zara and I decided to take some good eats to the point in Ashbridges Bay. Although Heather kept getting chomped by some ants, the babies played together well and we took some great shots.

Oliver and I also had our Roberts brunch in September instead of December as we wanted to take advantage of the warm weather and the available space! The families have grown and we are out of space inside our house! We also welcomed the Steeves finally to our place and it was nice to see all the dogs, babies and parents playing together.

teslin not going anywhere!

Zara, Emma, Kelly and I went to Wings of Paradise and were treated to a wonderful tour by my cousin Adrienne. Wings of Paradise is an absolute gem in Cambridge where many different species of butterflies fly and flutter in a beautiful surrounding of plants and flowers and a waterfall. Adrienne helped for Emma and Zara to get up close and personal with the butterflies by placing them on the girls. We got to see butterflies laying eggs on a plant and saw butterflies who had just emerged from their . Some didn’t have the best first flight and they took a dive bomb onto the floor! It was a great time and the photos are so great! Thanks to Adrienne!

Zara has also started swimming lessons and absolutely loves the pool! She actually leans forward in the water to continue swimming when I try to give her a break! Her first swim was great and even though the pool was a little cold she continued to keep kicking and swimming in the water. The only drawback was that she swallowed a lot of water!

Dana and I also took a drive to Goderich to visit with Barb overnight and had a great visit. The babies enjoyed seeing the kitties and playing together. We took a walk around the town square and other than Zara having a little meltdown because she wanted to eat right then, they settled in quite well. Wilson and Zara played in the leaves and met Barb’s neighbours and then went down for the night! On the way home we stopped at Faye’s in Sebringville and bought a few things. It was a little harder this time around as Zara wanted to grab at everything! Everything is so sparkly!
